Why FEMclub?
Although 60–70% of medical students are women, only 10–20% of women hold leadership positions. Women often face unique challenges in their careers that make it difficult for them to advance and that must be overcome. We founded FEMclub to create a strong and supportive platform where women in medicine can encourage, inspire, and support each other. We want to make diverse role models visible and accessible and create a valuable career network that offers solutions to everyday challenges in the workplace and in terms of work-life balance, while also promoting personal and professional development.
Our overarching goal is to achieve greater equality in medicine and thus fully realize the potential of our society—with as much joy, passion, and team spirit as possible.
Who is the FEMclub for?
The FEMclub is aimed at women in medicine – both physicians and scientists (e.g., biologists, chemists, physicists, etc.), colleagues from university hospitals, non-university institutions, practices, and industry. We are delighted to welcome women at all stages of their careers to the FEMclub, from university to chief positions. Through close networking with like-minded people within a career stage, but also across career stages, valuable contacts can be made and informal mentor/mentee relationships and fruitful collaborations can develop.
What does FEMclub offer?
A lot.
As a member, you have the opportunity to participate in workshops, coaching sessions, networking events, and enriching discussions aimed at inspiring and encouraging you to strengthen your professional network, identify career paths and tips and tricks for work-life balance, and maximize your career opportunities. Local after-work events enable optimal regional networking in a relaxed atmosphere, but there are also larger national events (e.g., the FEMclub Spring Event – the Female Leadership Workshop in Leogang) for further networking. In addition, members have the opportunity to receive information about attractive job vacancies/positions (e.g., W2/W3 professorships, OA/CA positions, etc.), requests to speak, or media inquiries via the “FEMclub Job Match” database. Of course, you can also make requests at any time if you are looking for a candidate for a vacancy yourself, in order to increase the proportion of women in leadership positions and the visibility of women. The frequent excuse “there was simply no suitable female candidate for the job” will thus become obsolete in the future.
